Anyone who works with social media or uses it on a personal level will know that video is huge – it’s the thing of the moment; film yourself cooking breakfast, doing a French braid or opening blind bags (no, really) you could make a killing. YouTube is the current go-to for cool video content and Facebook wants in…SO…enter IGTV.
Facebook-owned Instagram has just announced the launch of its long-form video platform, which will increase its video time limit from one minute to 10 minutes for most users. Instagram accounts with large audiences will be able to go as long as an hour.
Video will be available through Instagram or a new app called IGTV.
This is big news for brands targeting an audience on Instagram. We recently wrote a blog stating 10 ways to expand with Instagram – check it out HERE quoting stats that reveal 800 million as the total number of active monthly Instagram users, of which 59 percent of users are between the ages of 18 and 29, and 33 percent between the ages of 30 and 49. This is a lot of people (right?), which means that if your brand has not already staked some space on Insta; it might be worth checking out. But back to video content…
Word on the street is that younger audiences are spending more time with amateur content creators and less time with pros, which opens up the market to, well, anyone and everyone.
Instagram’s CEO, Kevin Systrom, told the Associated Press that he hopes IGTV will emerge as a hub of creativity for relative unknowns who turn into internet sensations with fervent followings among teens and young adults.
The launch of IGTV is a great opportunity for brands – to grab attention and build reputation. These days, people are watching less TV and more digital video, and the boffs at Instagram reckon that by 2021, mobile video will account for 78 percent of total mobile data traffic. If you’re not on the band wagon, freaking jump on! You won’t want to miss this ride.
